Zuckerman Spaeder LLP partners Thomas B. Mason and Ellen D. Marcus, with associates Steven N. Herman and Rachel F. Cotton, are offering an opportunity aimed at those procrastinators who are rushing to meet their Virginia CLE requirements before the October 31 deadline. Two sessions will be administered, each of which has been approved by the Virginia MCLE for 2 credit hours. Attendance is free and lunch will be served. Faculty:
Thomas B. Mason is chair of Zuckerman Spaeder’s Legal Profession and Ethics Practice where he advises and represents attorneys and law firms on a variety of malpractice and ethics matters conflicts of interest, confidentiality, disciplinary investigations and prosecutions, partner departures, and law firm breakups. He has also served three terms as the chair of the District of Columbia Bars’ Legal Ethics Committee. Most recently, Mr. Mason was named Best Lawyers’ 2014 Washington, DC Ethics and Professional Responsibility Law “Lawyer of the Year.” Mr. Mason began his legal career as a judicial law clerk for the Hon. Frank Kaufman in U.S. District Court for the District of Maryland.
Ellen D. Marcus is a partner who represents both plaintiffs and defendants in complex civil litigation and maintains an active pro bono practice representing hourly-wage workers. Ms. Marcus co-founded and is a contributing editor of Suits by Suits, a blog examining disputes between companies and high-level employees. Before joining Zuckerman Spaeder, Ms. Marcus clerked for the Hon. Leonie M. Brinkema of the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Virginia.
Steven N. Herman is an associate who represents companies and individuals in criminal investigations and prosecutions, securities enforcement actions, and complex civil litigation. Mr. Herman is a member of Zuckerman Spaeder’s Ethics Committee, which advises the firm’s attorneys and staff on a variety of ethical issues. Prior to joining Zuckerman Spaeder, Mr. Herman was a clerk for the Hon. Paul S. Diamond of the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania.
Rachel F. Cotton is an associate who practices in the areas of complex civil litigation, legal ethics, and white collar criminal defense. She has experience representing both lawyers and law firms on a variety of professional ethics matters, unauthorized practice of law issues, bar admissions, and disciplinary investigations. Prior to joining Zuckerman Spaeder LLP, Ms. Cotton was an associate at Covington & Burling LLP, and clerked for the Hon. Diana Gribbon Motz of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Fourth Circuit and the Hon. Henry H. Kennedy Jr. of the U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia.
