DOJ Veteran Daniel Braun Joins Zuckerman Spaeder as Partner

Zuckerman Spaeder LLP is pleased to announce Daniel A. Braun has joined its Washington, D.C. office as partner. Mr. Braun brings to the firm extensive experience in criminal and regulatory enforcement, gained from more than 15 years as a prosecutor at the U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ) and as an Assistant U.S. Attorney for the Southern District of New York.

Mr. Braun’s most recent government post was as the DOJ’s Deputy Chief of Litigation in the Fraud Section of the Criminal Division, where he managed many of the Department’s most significant cases. In this role, he coordinated closely with both international regulators and DOJ’s Antitrust Division on cartel investigations and other highly publicized matters. For his work, he was recognized with the Attorney General’s Award for Distinguished Service in 2014 and 2016, the Department’s second-highest award for employee performance.

“I am thrilled to be joining the team at Zuckerman Spaeder,” said Mr. Braun. “I have admired Zuckerman Spaeder lawyers since I started practicing law in Washington. For investigations, litigation, regulatory, or enforcement matters, this has been a go-to firm for clients facing their most complex and challenging problems. And the lawyers here have achieved outstanding results when the stakes are high and the obstacles might seem daunting. I am also proud to be part of a firm that, to its core, operates as a true partnership, that stays true to its values, and that enables all of its people to play a deep and meaningful role in serving our clients. It is an honor to have the opportunity to continue that tradition.”

In private practice, Mr. Braun has aided clients in matters involving allegations of bribery and corruption, money laundering, sanctions violations, market misconduct, and other white collar crime.

“Dan is well-known among our partners. He has earned a reputation from his time in government and in private practice as a great colleague and an intellectual force. He is a talented trial attorney who brings experience, focus, enthusiasm, and good humor to his work,” said Zuckerman Spaeder chairman and partner Dwight P. Bostwick. “Dan will enrich our partnership while being a tremendous asset for clients seeking to navigate complex legal battles, including those arising in the context of governmental investigations and prosecutions. We look forward to working with Dan for years to come.”

Prior to joining Zuckerman Spaeder, Mr. Braun was partner in the white collar litigation and global investigations practices at a major international law firm.

Zuckerman Spaeder partner and former Director of the Division of Enforcement of the U.S. Commodity Futures Trading Commission Aitan D. Goelman comments, “I’ve known Dan for over 30 years and am thrilled that he’s joining the firm. His skills, judgment, and experience are all top-notch, and he conducts himself with the highest degree of integrity. He is well-respected among everyone who has worked with him, including both current and former government officials.”

Early in his career, Mr. Braun served as a judicial law clerk to the former Honorable Timothy K. Lewis of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Third Circuit and the Honorable G. Thomas Eisele of the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Arkansas. He received his J.D. from Yale Law School and his Bachelor's Degree, with honors, from Princeton University, where he was a member of the Phi Beta Kappa Society.
