Champion of Justice, Maryland Legal Aid Equal Justice Council, 2014

On Thursday, May 22, 2014, the Equal Justice Council (EJC) of Maryland Legal Aid recognized Martin S. Himeles, Jr., managing partner of Zuckerman Spaeder LLP’s Baltimore office, as a “Champion of Justice” at its 17th Annual Recognition Breakfast. Mr. Himeles was one of two people who received the “Champion of Justice” honor at the event, which was held at Camden Yards. The EJC recognized Mr. Himeles for his pro bono support of the organization, as well as his participation and leadership in its fundraising and member recruiting efforts. 

A lawyer with more than 30 years of experience, Mr. Himeles currently serves as co-chair of the EJC’s law firm campaign, an annual giving program focused on connecting with area firms. The EJC is the fundraising arm of Maryland Legal Aid and was formed in 1997 with the goal to promote equal access to justice by increasing and diversifying Maryland Legal Aid’s resources and serving as advocates and ambassadors on behalf of the organization. The EJC focuses on securing funding from the private bar and business community. Members also work to increase pro bono involvement, participate in fundraising activities and educational programs, and cultivate relationships on behalf of Maryland Legal Aid.
